8 Simple Tips on How to Get in Shape

"No matter what I do, I just can't seem to get in shape." Does this statement sound familiar? Do you put effort out each week in trying to eat right and exercise, only to fall short by the third day?

If you are constantly starting a healthy exercise and eating program, only to let it fall by the wayside by the middle of the week you are destroying your metabolism, and killing any motivation you might have had.

Getting in shape is just as much as a mental approach as it is a physical one. If you want to get in shape once and for all you have to make some changes. Below are some tips on how to get in shape to prevent falling off the wagon again.

Tip #1 Make a committed goal to get in shape Goal setting, blah, blah, blah. You may think this is an unnecessary step and a waste of time, but NOT making a committed goal can be your biggest reason for failure.

Tip #2 Stick to your goal - Don't keep changing your mind Sure, just because you have some goals written down or outlined on your calendar doesn't mean you will get in shape. You have to actually follow your plan.

Tip #3 Eat balanced meals Eating balanced meals is one of the most important aspects of getting in shape. Most people tend to think that a can of tuna or an apple is a meal. Wrong. A meal is a combination of a complete protein and a carbohydrate.

Tip #4 Eat real food Any food won't do. You should be feeding your body quality nutrients in the form of natural foods. Far too many people rely on processed food-like items in boxes labeled "healthy," low-fat," low-carb," etc. for health and weight loss. For the best quality food, eat those that Mother Nature has provided. If you can hunt, pick, gather, or harvest it, you can eat it. More importantly, it would be wise to eat organic as much as possible.

Tip #5 Don't skip meals Many people think that in order to get in shape they have to be in a calorie deficient mode. While this might stand true to an extent, most people are going about it in the wrong manner by skipping meals.

Tip #6 Don't cut the carbs The no-carb craze is still in high gear. Granted, lowering carbs can have an effect on fat loss to a certain degree, but there's a certain procedure you have to use to do it correctly to prevent fatigue, burnout, and excess muscle loss.

Tip #7 Don't kill the Cardio - Cardio is fine, provided you are eating the right nutrients to support it. The problem many people have when trying to get in shape is that they drastically cut their calories AND carbs, and then suddenly jump on an hour of high intensity cardio a day. This is simply as recipe for disaster because it leads to metabolic downgrade.

Tip #8 Don't put your faith in the latest wonder drug - People become desperate when they want to shed pounds, build muscle, or just get in shape. This can lead you to taking "fat burning supplements" with high promises and disappointing results.

Conclusion Now that you have some crucial guidelines to follow to get you on the right path and to literally get you in shape, use them to your advantage. Nothing worth having comes easy. So, put forth the effort and the time it takes to get you in the best shape of your life.

8 Important Facts About Type 2 Diabetes

With all the information about type 2 diabetes floating on the internet, it would be tricky to find the most important information about it. Type 2 diabetes is a disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by high blood glucose levels in the body and its inability to use the hormone insulin properly.

There are many internet sources that unfortunately missed the important facts that may help other people make better lifestyle choices and ultimately prevent the onset of this metabolic disorder.

To be informed about the big diabetes lie, here are the top eight important facts that anybody who is facing diabetes can find useful.

Losing Weight Improves Your Chances

According to the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), losing excess body weight will help improve your body's ability in processing insulin and glucose. Studies have found that overweight people who have lost weight were able to prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes.

Race Can Dictate Your Risk

It has statistically been stated that American Indians, Alaska Natives, Hispanics, African Americans, and Asians are more likely to develop this disease compared to other races. In fact, it has been known that these races are twice likely to develop type 2 diabetes compared to non-Hispanic whites.

Children Can Get Them Too

5% of Diabetes Cases are Type 1 and The rest Accounts for Type 2 Diabetes. Many people are familiar with type 1 and type 2 diabetes respectively. The latter used to be called "adult-onset diabetes" but this condition is becoming more prevalent among children as well.

It is believed by the scientific community that the upswing in type 2 diabetes among children are caused by the changing society and its relations to poor diet and less exercise.

Amputation Is Possible

One of the well-known complications of diabetes is diabetic neuropathy. This complication is the destruction of nerve fibers in the body that causes numbness, tingling sensations and even paralysis at your lower extremities.

This complication makes your legs and feet are more likely to get wounded because of the lack of sensation. These wounds can get severely infected to the point of amputation is needed.

You Could Go Blind

Another feared complication associated with diabetes is retinopathy characterized by blurry vision and sometimes blindness. This is a complication wherein the blood vessels of the retina burst and leak causing fluid pressure inside the eyes. This can be treated with laser procedures or eye surgery.

People who are 45 Years Old And Above Should Get Tested

According to the American Diabetes Association, people who are 45 years old and above should get tested for type 2 diabetes, and people who are overweight or have had trouble losing weight should also get tested.

The risk factors for type 2 diabetes include having a close relative with diabetes, living a sedentary lifestyle, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, race, has a history of cardiovascular disease and women who have polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The Risk Of Heart Disease Increases When You Are Diabetic

Heart disease is still the leading cause of death and one of the major health concerns in the United States. However, patients with diabetes are at an even greater risk of developing heart-related diseases.

If glucose levels are not maintained, it can eventually damage your blood vessels and the nerves that control the heart. The longer you have diabetes, the higher the chances that you will develop coronary disease.

You are also twice as likely to develop heart problems compared to others who do not have diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes Diet Is Not Different From The Normal Recommended Diet

Eating a healthy diet plays a major role in managing type 2 diabetes well. Some people find the diet too restrictive while some do not. What is interesting about this is that the diet for type 2 diabetes patients is not very different from the recommended healthy diet.

Diabetics are encouraged to cut back on refined foods, sugars, and bad fat while eating more whole foods. This diet is not completely different at all compared to what an ordinary person without diabetes would consume to stay healthy.

In terms of natural treatment, diabetic patients can improve their health and possibly reverse their condition by eating properly, eating smaller meals and maintaining a healthy weight. Diet still remains as one of the most important components in managing this condition.

If you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you are not alone in this battle. Millions of Americans have successfully managed their condition and have led vibrant and healthy lives. Make sure to talk to your doctor at every step of the way. Your physician will guide you on your road to a healthier life.

7 Reasons Why Worry is Bad for Your Health

7 Reasons Why Worry is Bad for Your Health

Staying healthy is the goal of most people. As I look at our healthcare system, it has never been as important as it is today to be proactive in staying healthy.

Between the expense healthcare and medication, the threat to your financial stability and the questionable "scientific" data that supports that taking a million, kazillion (I know this is not a valid term) drugs is acceptable, I'd say one had better do everything possible to maintain their health as naturally and as cost effectively as possible.

Did you know that there is a definite mind-body connection and that stress is related to the reason for 75-90% of all primary care visits to physicians? Actually, I could have told you this without any fancy statistics.

It just plain makes intuitive sense. When you are angry and upset, notice how your body feels. Notice how much more difficult it is to concentrate. Then notice how you feel when you are joyful and happy.

In fact, have your blood pressure checked as you blow a fuse. Have it checked when you are in a relaxed state. It is likely that it will be high with anger and normal to low when relaxed. A relaxed state is a healthy state. I want to pick on worry in this blog post today though, because it is so epidemic.

I had the clerk in my neighborhood grocery store yesterday, tell me in definite "I will not change my mind terms" that there were "no jobs" available for her son to obtain in all of the United States, and that he would have to leave the country to find a job in his field.

Unless he made horse and buggies or telegraph/typewriters, - you know, something we don't even use anymore - I doubt that her statement is true.

Yet, she obviously looked worry and upset as I discerned her energy and noticed the contorted expression on her face. I'm going to give you 7 reasons why you don't want to go there. Worry is essentially faith for what you DON'T want. Simple as that.

It hasn't happened, the person is just imagining it to be happening or is expecting (faith) that it will happen. Why not expect the best? Or at least remain neutral. In a nutshell, people generally worry because we are conditioned to do so.

As a world, we have so trained our brain to live in fear and expecting the next disaster that our nervous system is always on alert to "fight, flight or freeze". This is what the stress response is.

Yet, we are capable of undoing this "hypnosis" on ourselves and rewiring and retraining our brains to come from a more uplifting space. Our brain is meant to serve us and does not judge the data you, your consciousness and intellect, feeds it. You must filter the facts that you see and come up with your own interpretation that forms your perception.

So, here are 7 reasons why you want to give up worrying and convert to becoming more of an optimist instead of a worrywart. Worry is dangerous to your health. Worry triggers the stress response, and here are seven (there are many others) side effects of stress:

1. Weakened immune system

2. Cancer

3. Heart Disease

4. Hypertension

5. Loss of concentration

6. Alzheimer's Disease/Other brain cell damage

7. Weight gain

I didn't even mention anxiety and when this gets severe enough, even issues like depression can arise. I think you get the point here.

There are simple ways to learn how to operate your amazing supercomputer, the brain and mind, while also at the same time getting back in touch with who you really are at your core, your Authentic Self. This is the path to staying healthy and true empowerment. Empowering your health begins from inside out. Any comments?
